Bergamot Soap

These handmade, Elizabethan style soap balls are well worth making. They are moisturizing and have a slightly exfoliating effect on the skin. The essential oils give the soap a delightful smell but provide no coloring so your finished soap balls will be the same color as the soap you start with.

Ingredients:

  • 250 g unperfumed vegetable oil soap
  • 25 g medium ground oatmeal
  • 3 tsp liquid coconut oil
  • 1 drop lemongrass essential oil
  • 2 drops bergamot essential oil
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil
  1. Grate the soap into a heat resistant mixing bowl and stir in a little water (in the ratio of ane part water to two parts soap). Put over a gentle heat in a double saucepan, stirring all the time until the mixture becomes a thick paste.
  2. Remove the bowl from the heat and add the oatmeal and coconut oil, mixing thoroughly. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding the essential oils.
  3. Divide the mixture into equal sized portions and roll each into a neat ball. Leave the balls to harden overnight on a wire rack. Wrap in tissue paper or store in a screw top jar in a cool place.
