Hypnotherapist Advice – Quit Smoking
“I really want to give up smoking but I have smoked since the age of 15 and am finding it difficult.
I’m 40 now and smoke 20 to 30 cigarettes a day.
I’ve tried many times to give up but I can’t.
My wife also smokes and I’m allowed to smoke at work.
Would hypnotherapy work?”
As with all addictions it is extremely important that you want to give up and you are giving up yourself, not because someone else wants you to. It’s also important that you don’t believe that hypnotherapy is a magical solution to smoking. Most people experience the trance state as though they were daydreaming. They are still able to think “what am I going to have for dinner?” and hear noises, such as water running through the radiator.
Believe In Yourself
On each visit, I would take you into a trance in a slow and gentle way. Once you were fully relaxed the process of negotiating between the part of you that is addicted and the part of you that wants to be free from the addiction and tobacco would begin. During this process it is important for me to emphasize that you are making this life change for yourself, not to please me or anyone else.
Because you’ve told me that you are a keen gardener, I would use words and images that combined your interest in gardening with your desire to give up smoking. Sounds bizarre, I know, but it works because images and words from your own experiences, memories and interests speak most powerful to you. After an hour I would bring the session to an end and, once you were fully alert, ask you about your experience of the session and how you now feel about cigarettes. You may not think anything has happened because you haven’t been asleep and can remember everything you’ve said but you might be surprised at the results.
I would also recommend you Rx-Hale tablets which will support your physical and mental health as you stop smoking.
